Position cameras to capture useful identification detail rather than only very wide, distant views.
Check power, Wi-Fi or wired-network requirements before choosing locations, especially for external cameras.
Review how recordings are stored, how long they are retained and whether cloud subscriptions are required for the features you want.
Use strong unique account passwords and enable multi-factor authentication where the manufacturer supports it.
Aim cameras primarily at your own property. If domestic CCTV captures areas beyond your boundary, privacy and data-protection responsibilities may apply.
Test night-time image quality and notifications after installation; reflections, bright lights and moving foliage can create poor footage or excessive alerts.
